Weekend News - Every Monday we write about something we did over the weekend. Please help your child review the weekend activities, and selectone moment they want to write about on their papers. Students are having difficulty remembering what they did, or want to include everything they did, which then takes them all week to complete.
Reader's Workshop -New learning I can read and understand informational texts. I know how to use text features to find information. I can stop and jot on Post-its to mark my thinking while I'm reading and use my Post-its to share my thoughts with my reading partner. Ongoing learning I can choose just right books for me. I can increase my reading stamina each day as I work towards 2nd grade goals of reading actively for 40 minutes. I can follow Reading Workshop routines and expectations. I can push my eyes ahead and read in big scoops to read fluently. I can stop, think, and retell what I read. Writer's Workshop- Informational Writing I can write to inform about a topic. I can use a beginning that names my subject and interests readers. I can use transition words like and and also to show I had more to say. I can use different parts in my writing such as facts, definitions, details, steps, and tips. I can use words that show I am an expert on a topic (vocabulary). I can write sentences at the end of my writing to wrap up a piece. I can use my dictionary to help me spell words. I can use a capital at the beginning of a sentence and end it with punctuation. I can use a checklist to re-read my writing to make sure it sounds right and makes sense
